It is in many ways a nation unto itself—proud, independent and rich with heritage. Catalonia is the land of Picasso, Dalí and Gaudí, who clearly drew inspiration from the strong culture and stunning surroundings that define this landscape: from the towering Pyrénées to volcanic flats, rolling pastoral hills and rugged Costa Brava. For the duration of your weeklong adventure, you will discover the best that Barcelona and the Costa Brava have to offer. By foot, by bike, by sea and of course, from behind your very own paintbrush.
Day 1. Explore Barcelona's Old Town with a scavenger hunt through the Gothic Quarter. Spend the afternoon cruising Ciutadella city park and the waterfront by bike.
Day 2. Tilt at the mosaic-filled walkways in Park Güell. Then, come face-to-face with La Sagrada Familia, Antonio Gaudi's unfinished masterpiece. Complete the day with a Catalan mosaic workshop!
Day 3. Arrive in the Lower Emporda region and set off on a bike ride between its picturesque medieval villages. Explore the town of Pals after a delicious lunch, then relax by your hotel’s wonderful pool.
Day 4. Spend the morning sea kayaking amid the peninsulas of Cala Castell. This afternoon, stop by botanical gardens to learn more about the flora that grows on this rugged coastline.
Day 5. Head into the city of Figueres to explore the wacky world of Salvador Dali. Following your museum visit, put on your painting aprons and create your own surrealist masterpiece with a local artist.
Day 6. After one final scrumptious breakfast, you will be driven to either downtown Barcelona or the Barcelona airport. Adios!
