Experience East Africa's landscapes and wildlife at their finest, embarking on game drives through majestic national parks and reserves in Kenya and Tanzania, keeping watch for the famous "Big Five," and visiting a Maasai village like Mona did in 2019
The vast Tanzanian and Kenyan landscapes host one of earth’s last remaining wildlife spectacles: the annual Great Migration, when a staggering number of herbivores trek across the Serengeti plains in search of water and fresh grass — hungry predators following in their wake.
This trip was on Mona's bucket list for so long. She did other safari's before so was very excited to witness the Great Migration. And she did.
All the photos are taken with her camera.
The planning started with booking 3 camps in different areas along the path of the migration, to increase the chances of seeing the crossings. So the first camp was the fabulous Singita Mara River Tented Camp in Serengeti, Tanzania. "It was just perfect in every way, Singita has a grand reputation and they delivered on their promise" said Mona.
The second camp was in Masai Mara Triangle; &Beyond Bateleur Camp with a step-back-in-time feel. Here Mona opted for a hot air balloon ride across the sprawling Mara, for an exciting new perspective on wildlife.
The third and final camp was Elewana Sand River "As we always say; luxury is in the service. Sand River is not an over-the-top camp, it is more simple but the service is exceptional. Each member of the staff made me feel at home, like i have a friend or a family. I highly recommend this camp" said Mona.
Game viewing was abundant in every camp, and she saw all the animals plus multiple crossings.
She visited 2 Maasai villages and met with the elder to learn about local culture and traditions, she took away with her the bridal necklace to hang on the wall of her apartment "When I travel, I always buy something that reminds me of the destination. Fist time you visit me in my apartment, I give you an explanation of every piece and where I got it from. I was so fascinated with the Masai people I bought this bridal necklace to remind me of them".
Although Mona's trip started in Zanzibar (availability issues), she recommends doing it at the end. She stayed at a beautiful resort Zuri Zanzibar.
Please note that this time of year is peak season for Northern Serengeti and Masai Mara, so book way in advance if you want to find availability at the best camps.
